Looking for some book recommendations? Here are my top picks!
Whether you are a business owner, an individual, or a couple, I’ve got some favorite recommendations below. Enjoy!
For Business Owners
Business ownership has its own unique set of rewards and challenges! Having owned a PT practice with my husband since 2010, I’m well acquainted with all of it. You may be feeling burn out from all the work of owning and operating your own business. You are likely amazing at your skill, but the ownership and management pieces can feel nothing short of overwhelming. Here are two books that have been incredibly helpful for us. I love to recommend these to clients and friends who own their own business or are considering it.
The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It by Michael E. Gerber
In this book, Gerber shows how most small businesses fail because owners get trapped working in their business (as technicians) instead of on their businesses (as managers).
Profit First by Mike Michalowicz
Profit First by Mike Michalowicz presents a cash management system that flips the traditional accounting formula ensuring businesses become profitable immediately by taking profit first. The method uses multiple bank accounts (or "buckets") to allocate funds for profit, owner's pay, taxes, and operating expenses, forcing entrepreneurs to operate within their means and innovate, transforming a "cash-eating monster" into a "money-making machine".
For Individuals & Couples
While I would love to coach everyone who wants simple systems for their money, I know not everyone is going to hire me! So if you are looking for a DIY approach, use the free resources in my blog and Financial Clarity Tools section as well as the books below.
I Will Teach You to Be Rich by Ramit Sethi
In this book, Ramit covers topics like crushing debt, setting up high-interest accounts, negotiating raises, and automating finances, with an updated second edition including new tools and insights on money psychology.
Money For Couples by Ramit Sethi
Here, Ramit provides a framework for couples to align their finances, move past common money arguments, and build a shared “rich life.”
And if you like podcasts, my favorite is Ramit’s Money for Couples podcast :-)
If you want to be a financial coach…
If you are passionate about helping people feel calm and confident when it comes to money and are looking for formal training on becoming a financial coach and setting up your business, I’m always happy to recommend Financial Coach Academy. I went through their training in 2024 and can’t say enough great things about it! Check them out here. They have loads of great resources on their website as well.
