You Can’t Make a Mistake

IPEC FOUNDATIONAL PRINCIPLE 1: YOU CAN’T MAKE A MISTAKE

Of course I had to start with the principle that challenges me the most- You can’t make a mistake. When I was first introduced to this, I was indignant. Of course I can make a mistake! My life is riddled with mistakes! I am the queen of mistakes! So it took some work for me to come around to this.

For starters, this does NOT mean you are perfect and it’s NOT a means to excuse hurting yourself or others. It’s way deeper than that.

What do we mean when we say “mistake?”

I messed up.

I should have known better.

How could I have been so stupid?

How could they have done that?

How could they not know?

How stupid can they be?

What do all of those have in common? Judgement. A lot of judgement. And if you’re familiar with energy levels, you know where judgment lives! Catabolic level 2. It’s black-and-white thinking, and it fuels emotions like anger, resentment, frustration, and exasperation.

We all make choices, and we all have the opportunity to take responsibility for our choices and let them show us how we might choose differently next time. The decisions we make stem from our mind, our hearts, or both. People make choices based on their past, their belief systems, and their values.

Today’s reality is simply a picture that was created yesterday. All behavior makes sense when you have enough information.

That’s why what we call “mistakes” can actually become some of our most valuable teachers. They show us who we don’t want to be and help us decide who we do want to become.

Many people beat themselves up over the “mistakes” they have made. When it comes to money, you may look back and see mistakes. I see information, patterns, and most importantly opportunity for you.

Nothing you’ve done is wasted unless you refuse to learn from it. Imagine what it would feel like to look at your past, especially your money decisions, without shame or regret.

If that’s something you’re ready for, book a call with me. Let’s create that shift together.
